Description
Every August, in the North Carolina Mountains, when those buzzing honeybees fly off to feed on the sweet nectar of those beautiful fleecy white flowers that hang low on the Sourwood Trees, beekeepers are ready and waiting to capture one of the most sought after monofloral honeys in the whole world, Sourwood Honey. It has a beautiful straw color, and a soft, buttery, caramel aftertaste. The texture is smooth, and the taste, delicious. The Sourwood Tree is found primarily in the Appalachian Mountains and, therefore, Sourwood Honey is known as The Mountain Honey. Sourwood is our signature honey, and because of its high demand, we sell out of it every year.
If you haven’t already stopped reading to go and put some Sourwood in your tea or on your toast, here is a recipe from the Old Favorite Honey Recipes cookbook to get you started: Honey Buns!
