Saw Palmetto Honey is unique among honeys, in part due to the extraordinary circumstances necessary for its production. The bloom of a saw palmetto is a grand sight to behold. Saw palmettos are short palm trees with fanned out leaves. In early spring an impressive three-foot long flower stalk emerges and sprouts dozens of tiny white buds that provide a great source of nectar for bees. However, the saw palmetto plant is a slow growing shrub and it takes about 100 years to produce enough nectar in their flowers to entice the honeybees. It takes an incredible amount of patience from the beekeepers and several mature palmetto plants to produce this unique and rare honey.
Saw Palmetto Honey is also high in antioxidants and has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. This honey has a rich, full-bodied flavor that is ideal for strong teas, coffee, and cured meats and cheeses.
