Fried Green Tomatoes Bee Charmer Style

Asheville Bee Charmer is so honored to feature an essential southern recipe from one of our own: Nancy, Kim’s mom.

Nancy grew up in the south and has some of the most amazing southern recipes. Jill and Kim have looked forward to every opportunity to eat Nancy’s fried green tomatoes since they got together (21 years ago!). Jill recalls one summer she and Kim went to a BBQ at a friends house in Michigan. Nancy made her famous fried green tomatoes and Jill ate 12 (not the recommended serving size).

These fried green tomatoes melt in your mouth. They are not a big, deep battered glob of fried flour. You can taste the tomatoes in every bite, and the cornmeal makes the perfect crunchy complement.

For Jill and Kim this recipe is particularly important because you see Ruth and Idgie cooking fried green tomatoes in a scene in the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes”. So this particular recipe also includes a bit of honey, of course!
